Spotlighting: Hannah Grace Staton

I don’t exactly remember how I found Hannah Grace and The Grace Space but ever since then, I’ve been thoroughly enjoying every one of her posts!

If you ask me what my favorite post that she’s published is, I couldn’t tell you because her articles are consistently well-written, applicable, and biblically sound. Check out this poem that she recently wrote and that I absolutely loved!

Anyway, Hannah Grace reached out to me about doing an interview on Bibliophile’s, which I was more than happy to.

And so, without further ado, let’s get to know Hannah Grace a little better!

Hi Hannah Grace! I'm so glad to have you on A Bibliophile's Notebook. Could you tell readers a little about yourself?

Thanks for having me, Nicole! The most important thing to know about me is that I'm a beloved daughter of the King. Whatever else I might be, that's what matters most, and that will never change. I graduated high school last year and am currently in an exciting season of discovering and developing the gifts God has given me. Since my main focus is writing, most of what I'm doing is related to that. I'm working to grow in my writing through developing a consistent writing habit, learning about the writing craft, and connecting with fellow writers to support and encourage each other. Since I'm also interested in editing, I'm working to get experience with that as well. I love to come alongside fellow writers and help them make their work the best it can be. I recently started working at Skillful Pen Press as their managing editor, and I've enjoyed getting to be part of the behind-the-scenes workings of a small press. After writing, music is my second love. If I'm not listening to it, I might be making it. I enjoy playing the piano and coming up with my own arrangements for songs. I'm also an active part of a little country church, where I enjoy serving in various capacities and growing in community.

How about your blog, The Grace Space? What is it about and why did you start it?

The Grace Space is my avenue for sharing words with readers that I hope will encourage, challenge, and inspire them. I post devotionals mostly, but also song lists, book lists, stories, and even a few poems, all with that focus. I started The Grace Space about a year ago, but I've been sharing my writing with others longer than that; I just didn't have a blog. Before The Grace Space, I wrote a monthly newsletter that I shared with a small circle of family and friends. After a few years, I felt the time was right to start a blog so I could more easily share my writing with a wider audience.

Off the top of your head right now, what is your favorite post that you've written and why?

Oooh, this is a hard question! There are a handful of posts that I would put in my personal favorites category. However, often my favorite post is the one I've most recently written. In this case, the one that comes to mind is "Never Too Far," a story I recently posted on the blog. I don't write a lot of fiction, but this is one of my favorite stories I've written so far. It's special to me because it's one of the most emotionally intense stories I've written. The disciple Peter's story really resonated with me, and the message of God's grace that pursues us even after we've failed came alive for me in a new way as I wrote this modernized version of his story.

What is the biggest and best tip you have received and would like to give to readers about blogging?

Don't be afraid to experiment. Especially in the beginning, when you're still figuring out what you want to write, don't be afraid to try new things. Yes, there's a place for establishing a niche, but you need to try different things in order to figure out what suits you and your audience best. So stretch yourself, write something that's different from what you usually would, and you might be surprised to uncover gifts you didn't know you had!

I hear you're an author. 😊 Where have you been published and where can we find your stories?

I've been published in a handful of books with a few more in the works. You can find a list of places I've been published on the "Published Work" page on my blog.

Okay, here's some fun questions. 😜
Favorite Bible verse? Favorite author and/or book and why?

My favorite Bible verse is Isaiah 12:2 (ESV) — “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.” One of my favorite authors is Sara Brunsvold. I love her warm and winsome writing style and the way she weaves faith into her work.

Do you have a community for your blogging where you can be encouraged and inspired?

Yes! More than one, actually. I'm part of the Young Writer's Workshop, which is a great community for young writers I would highly recommend. Everyone there has been incredibly encouraging and supportive of me and my writing. I've also met a few writers there who have become good friends. Another group I'm part of is called the Writers' Bloc; it's for Christian women writers. I've gotten support there as well.

Any last words for readers?

Trust that God is leading you, even if you can't see it. He's guiding you to things greater than you could ever imagine.
